CAVITIES AND GUM DISEASE ARE PREVENTABLE!!
Regular dental checks up and scaling are a must for everyone twice a year. Plaque builds up in the mouth despite meticulous brushing and flossing at home. If the plaque is not cleaned, the calcium which is present in the saliva hardens it into calculus. Bacteria collect on the calculus and cause gum infection. It is gum infection which causes the bad smell and subsequent tooth loosening. The bacteria also release acid which eats away the tooth and cause cavities.
We use a minimally invasive procedure to clean out the bacteria that are causing the cavity in such a way that only the infected portion of the tooth is cleaned out and the surrounding healthy part is not damaged. We then place a filling in the cleaned area. We use state-of-the-art filling materials, which match the tooth colour and shape perfectly.
When a filling is not done in time, the infection increases and extends into the pulp and the surrounding bone. We make the tooth numb before we do the procedure. Once we have cleaned the canals, we do a filling in the canals before placing a crown on the tooth.
We place crowns on teeth after they have undergone root canal treatment, or on teeth which have very large cavities.
We commonly use two types of crowns.
- Ceramic Crowns: We use these to match the colour and shape of the natural teeth completely. We ensure that no one can make out which is the artificial crown and which one is the natural tooth. We restore the smile completely.
- Porcelain Fused to Metal Crowns: There is an inner metal shell which is coated with a layer of ceramic to give it a natural look. This is slowly being phased out as newer and better materials are now available for all ceramic crowns.
